He may have been missing for the best part of six months due to a shoulder injury but Thanasi Kokkinakis remains one of the sport's best prospects and time spent away from the game should only add extra motivation upon his return.

The Australian now sits at 143 in the ATP world rankings but he has a career-high of 69 and there is every expectation that he will return to the top 100 when he fully recovers from his injury.

Alongside Nick Kyrgios, he carries the hopes of a nation who are looking for a replacement to Lleyton Hewitt and Kokkinakis can be that guy should he build on his Grand Slam performances of 2015.

He holds wins over Ernests Gulbis in Australia and countryman Bernard Tomic at Roland Garros, while a last-16 appearance at Indian Wells also whetted the appetite of what he could deliver over the next few years.

The Adelaide resident must overcome the mental battle of trusting his shoulder again, but providing he deals with that, he has the firepower to join Kyrgios among the elite.
