10 Biggest Underachievers In Fantasy Premier League 2019/20
7. Gylfi Sigurdsson - Everton
Heading into the 2019/20 season, Gylfi Sigurdsson had so much going for him on paper that should have made him a great Fantasy Football asset.
He was playing the Number 10 role for Everton, meaning he was positioned centrally and high up the pitch so should in theory have been involved in plenty of goals.
Sigurdsson also took the lion’s share of Everton’s set pieces – including those all-important penalties.
On top of that, rotation was unlikely to be an issue as The Toffees were not playing European football.
Sigurdsson was priced at £8m - so he was clearly expected to do pretty well in FPL.
And yet, he struggled. Everton under Marco Silva were pretty poor and never really got any momentum going. Sigurdsson’s lack of pace seemed to make him look like a luxury player at times.
His FPL numbers were pretty low as Everton languished in the bottom half of the table and eventually Silva was sacked, being replaced by Carlo Ancelotti.
While Everton improved under Ancelotti, Sigurdsson was playing further back in the Italian’s new tactical system.
The Icelandic international managed just 95 points for the season, with only two goals and four assists, despite starting 31 of Everton’s 38 Premier League fixtures.
