On his day Paul Pogba is world-beater. Just ask Croatia.

Manchester United’s record signing can do it all: tackle, dribble, pass and shoot – but something didn’t seem quite right between Pogba and Manchester United for the majority of the 2019/20 season.

Frustratingly Pogba missed much of the first half of the season due to injuries, but media speculation was rife that there was more to the Frenchman’s absence.

The kicker though, was that even when Pogba did show some really good form once football restarted in June, he still wasn’t a viable FPL asset thanks to United’s addition of Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes.

A £47m January signing from Sporting Lisbon, Fernandes had taken on the role of United’s creator-in-chief meaning Pogba was playing further back.

The new system worked wonders for the team, but did nothing to entice FPL managers to sign Pogba, especially when the likes of Fernandes, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood were bringing in points on a regular basis.

To make matters worse for Pogba in FPL, not only did Fernandes take over as United’s leading playmaker, but he also became the team’s main penalty taker too.

Yes, Pogba did miss a lot of the season due to injury, but at £8.5m, just 51 points with one goal and four assists in 16 appearances was simply not what you would expect from an FPL force of his calibre.
