For a man with such a horrifically frustrating injury record as Daniel Sturridge, the fact that the Reds haven’t canned him yet shows just how talented he is. Despite enduring a nightmare few years on the injury front, the former Chelsea striker can still boast an excellent goalscoring record for the Reds, with 53 in 92 appearances for the club.

There is no denying his quality - he is a born goalscorer. A Birmingham lad, you might have thought he grew up supporting one of the city’s triumvirate of clubs. Not so.

As a youngster growing up he was infatuated with everything Arsenal, with Ian Wright an idol of his. The club could do with a player with Sturridge’s goalscoring record on their books as they face into another season of uncertainty.
