“I need to keep that quiet! But when you start playing for a team, you immediately start supporting them because you want to do your best for your team and you always want them to do well.” - Raheem Sterling, October 2012. (Liverpool Echo, 2013. 'Liverpool FC's Raheem Sterling - supporting United, false private life rumours and why mum is the new Mourinho'.

Raheem Sterling may be the worst Manchester United fan on the planet. Having grown up in London, the former QPR youth has signed for both of their most hated rivals in Liverpool and Manchester City before blowing out the candles on his 21st birthday cake.

Having spent the last four years of his career being abused every time he walked out at a frosty Old Trafford, it’s fair to say that any affection the youngster might have had for the Red Devils as a youngster has petered away. However, despite the criticism he is currently receiving - after all, the national team always needs a scapegoat following a summer of failure - Sterling is a terrific talent.

Blessed with natural ability, pace and an eye for goal, the Kingston-born wideman is worth every penny of the £49 million that Liverpool extracted from the pockets of Sheikh Mansour last summer - one the occasions that he finds form.

Under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson and now Jose Mourinho, Sterling would certainly have been a threat.
