10 Boyhood Man Utd Fans The Club Should Have Signed
5. Seamus Coleman
Man United haven’t had a top-class right-back since Gary Neville packed it in for ‘Monday Night Football’. Rafael, Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian have all shown qualities, but their flaws have outweighed their positives. Seamus Coleman however, is one of the finest full-backs in England.
Having shown himself to be remarkably consistent, he is one of the fittest footballers around - morphing into Dani Alves every time he bombs down that right channel for the Toffees. It’s rare that an Everton defender can emerge from last season with any credit, with Roberto Martinez having neglected any responsibility in that department, but the former Sligo Rovers man can be pleased with his efforts. Captaining Ireland at the European Championships should also be another feather in the cap for a man whose career keeps growing with every season.
Oh, and he’s no stranger to the odd goal, having netted 20 times since arriving on Merseyside in 2009. Like many Irishmen, the Killybegs native spent his youth supporting the Red Devils and one gets the feeling that if they were to have approached him by now, he would have jumped at the chance.
