10 Boyhood Man Utd Fans The Club Should Have Signed
3. Aaron Ramsey
Man United should have signed Aaron Ramsey - the midfielder would have been a fantastic addition to their squad and under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson, would have become the metronome and heartbeat of their midfield. However, it is not for the want of trying. During the summer of 2008, the club agreed a £5 million fee with Cardiff City for his services only for the Welsh teenager to spurn the opportunity, choosing to link up with Arsenal instead.
“I supported Manchester United as a youngster but once I had spoken to Arsene, the way he described the Arsenal set-up and their plans for the future impressed me. I just had a gut instinct that the right move for me would be joining Arsenal.” - Aaron Ramsey, July 2008.
It hasn’t happened too often in the last decade that a player has turned Man United down in favour of the road less travelled at the Emirates, but judging by how Arsene Wenger has managed to mould Ramsey into a well-rounded and influential midfield player, it’s fair to say that the blonde bombshell probably made the right choice.
The Red Devils on the other hand, have been going through midfielders like tissues during flu season, as they strive to find an adequate heir to Roy Keane. It's been ten years, and so far... no luck.
