10 British Sporting Heroes Who Could Bring Us Glory This Summer

2. Andy Murray

The Scot goes into this year€™s Wimbledon having reached the semi-finals for the past three years. However the world number four has endured a tough season so far. He was eliminated in the round of 32 at Queens, and only has one title this season. Also he will face tough competition at the All England Club and may find it difficult having to overcome the usual suspects of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. If does manage to overcome the odds, then the 25 year-old will become the first Briton to win the Wimbledon Men€™s Title since 1936. He is also set to be named in Team GB€™s Olympic Tennis Team, and should he land Gold, and possibly achieve a home double €“ then the summer could belong to Murray.

1. Ryan Giggs

The Welshman has never had the chance to play in the finals of major international tournament, and the Olympics might be his chance to shine. He€™s been given the go-ahead by his club, Manchester United, to be part of Team GB€™s Football Team, and if selected he could provide the know-how and guile needed by the mainly under-23 squad. Despite their being more media focus on the selection of his former Manchester United pal, David Beckham, Giggs could prove to be the country€™s trump card. While Beckham has been applying his trade in America, the Welshman is still competing at premiership level at the age of 38. The bookies rate Team GB as third favourites to win the Olympic title, behind Spain and Brazil, but Giggs will be looking to add gold to his vast collection of silverware. Also If England fail to win the Euro, then capturing the Olympic title will provide some element of redemption. If the 38 year old produces a string of match-winning performance to achieve this €“ then the summer of 2012 will be his. The Team GB Squad is set to be announced by July 6th, with their first match taking place on July 26th against Senegal at Old Trafford.
