10 British Sporting Heroes Who Could Bring Us Glory This Summer

4. Paula Radcliffe

Despite holding the marathon world record, and winning the London and New York events on multiple occasions, Radcliffe has failed to land an Olympic medal in four consecutive attempts. She will try to change that by competing at the London 2012 Marathon. The former World Champion seems to have an Olympic hoodoo and feels she hasn€™t given the games her €œbest shot€. Considering that she€™s tasted success in London before, it might give her the edge this time round.

3. Steven Gerrard

As captain of the English national team, if Steven Gerrard can lead England to success at Euro 2012 then he will end the country€™s 46 year wait for a trophy. This is the Liverpool man€™s fifth major international competition, his second as Captain, and possibly his last chance to taste success with England. He will be 34 by the time the next World Cup comes around, and with players like Arsenal€™s Jack Wilshire emerging, he is by no means guaranteed a seat on the plane to Brazil. If England manages to qualify from Group D, then they will face either Spain or Italy in the last eight. A daunting task, but if Gerrard can propel his team to victory and eventually win the competition, then he will undoubtedly go down in history as a national hero.
