10 Deflating Things That Always Seem To Happen To Spurs
6. Big Signings Failing To Deliver
Look at some of the players on Spurs' list of most expensive signings; Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Erik Lamela, David Bentley, Darren Bent, Sergei Rebrov, Mousa Dembele. None of those players have truly proven their worth in their time at Spurs. All too often, Spurs spend big on players only to find that they don't adapt to the Premier League or don't recreate their form from their previous clubs - and that obviously highlights a flaw in Spurs' buying policy and scouting methods. Look at the summer in which Spurs sold Gareth Bale for a world record transfer fee of more than £85 million; the Lilywhites spent more than £100 million on the aforementioned Soldado, Paulinho and Lamela, as well as Nacer Chadli, Vlad Chiriches, Etienne Capoue and Christian Eriksen. Can Spurs seriously say they've had their money's worth from that little lot? Absolutely not. Perhaps they need to start being a bit more careful and selective when it comes to their new signings - especially when big money is involved.
