10 Deflating Things That Always Seem To Happen To Spurs
7. Capitulation In Matches
On a similar note to, but on a smaller scale than the promising starts entry, Spurs have a tendency to start matches off well, fail to kill them off, and then capitulate in the second half and end up losing a match they should have won easily. There have been four examples of this already this season; first, 2-1 up against Sunderland and having been on top for most of the game, a Harry Kane own goal eight minutes from time ensured the match ended all square. Second, at home to West Brom, having dominated possession all game, a 74th minute goal from James Morrison gave the Baggies the victory. Third, at home to Besiktas in the Europa League, Spurs were 1-0 up until the 89th minute when a stupid Vlad Chiriches error gave the Turkish side a penalty to earn them a draw. Finally, having totally dominated Newcastle United in the first half at White Hart Lane, Spurs were 1-0 up, until a second half capitulation - and two players scoring their first Premier League goals (we'll get to that later) - gave the Toon a 2-1 win. It's this lack of backbone that really gets on Spurs' fans nerves and gives the club a soft reputation.
