10. Michael Owen Wins The Derby For United
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vV1d4lwhVm8 When City made the short trip to Old Trafford in September 2009, there was a growing arrogance about them, and their sudden wealth had seen them become a genuine threat to bitter rivals United. Sir Alex Ferguson's side wanted to put them in their place, and what followed was a sensational 90 minutes of football. Wayne Rooney's early strike sent the home fans into raptures, but Gareth Barry levelled matters shortly after with a well-taken effort. After the break, Darren Fletcher headed United back in front, only for Craig Bellamy to equalise with a stunning effort. It was a breathless game, and there were still twists and turns to come. Fletcher thought he had won it for the hosts with his second of the game, but Rio Ferdinand's dreadful error allowed Bellamy to race through and make it 3-3 on 90 minutes. Not many would have predicted that Michael Owen would be the hero on the day- the former Liverpool striker was very much a squad player at this point and past his best- but the substitute settled matters in dramatic fashion. Ryan Giggs expertly found him with a pinpoint ball, and Owen finished brilliantly with the outside of his foot to win an unbelievable Manchester derby for United. It was one of the finest games you could wish to see.
