10 Early Predictions For Premier League 2020-21 Season
4. Sheffield United Will Suffer From Second Season Syndrome
During Sheffield United's first season back in the Premier League for 12 years, there wasn't a football fan paying attention that wasn't captivated by their Cinderella story. For much of the season, despite relatively little money being pumped into the squad over the summer, the Blades were chasing a top four finish.
Next season however, could prove to be considerably more difficult now that the team is no longer the plucky underdog. Now, they are an established Premier League team, and the other clubs in the division know exactly what to expect from them.
Since the team only scored 39 goals last season, they will need to be at their best defensively in order to win the close games they are bound to be involved in, as they were last season. Despite bringing Aaron Ramsdale in from Bournemouth for a reported fee of £18.5 million however, Dean Henderson's return to parent club Man United means the club will still see a drop in quality between the sticks and in defence as a whole.
Unfortunately, the threat of second season syndrome is looming, and it's unlikely that United will be able to repeat the top half finish they achieved last season.
