10 Most Expensive Transfer Flops In Liverpool History

1. Andy Carroll

There could only ever be one player at the top of this list, couldn't there? Ok, Aquilani and Keane didn't even come close to justifying their huge price tags, but Andy Carroll is on another level. Dalglish signed him for an enormous £35m from Newcastle on the final day of the 2011 January transfer window, leaving many scratching their heads at what was one of the biggest transfer fees ever at the time. He didn't make his debut for a couple of months because of injury, and when he did play he managed just two Liverpool goals in his nine Premier League appearances in 2011/12, both against Manchester City in the same game. In 2011/12 he continued to struggle, scoring just four times in 35 league games and nine in 47 in total. It was just so clear all along that he was not good enough to lead the line at Anfield, and it is just unbelievable that Luis Suarez cost over £10m less than Carroll. When Rodgers arrived at Anfield it was obvious that Carroll did not suit his style of play whatsoever, and he was loaned out to West Ham. He signed for the Hammers permanently in the summer of 2013, but injuries have further curtailed his progress at the east London club. There is a certain amount of ability there- some people claim injuries ruined his chances of properly proving himself- but as soon as Liverpool spent £35m on him it looked like the worst transfer they had ever made. It certainly isn't far off. Let us know who you think 10 Most Expensive Transfer Flops In Liverpool History have been in the comments section.Follow Henry on twitter: @HenryJackson87
