10 Most Expensive Transfer Flops In Liverpool History
5. El Hadji Diouf
If you look at virtually any negative top 10 list regarding Liverpool, whether that be Most Hated Players, Worst Signings or something else, El Hadji Diouf virtually always makes the cut. This list is no different. The former Senegal striker joined Liverpool for £10 from Lens just prior to the 2002 World Cup, and his impressive displays in Japan and South Korea had many Reds fans excited to see him strutting his stuff at Anfield. Two goals on his home debut against Southampton was the perfect start, but from that point on Diouf was a complete waste of space. He managed just one league goal throughout the rest of the campaign, and finished it with just six in 46 in all competitions. His poor behaviour and disruptive attitude also made him an extremely unpopular player with both Liverpool fans and rival supporters alike- his inexcusable decision to spit at a Celtic fan during a UEFA Cup clash in 2003 saw Diouf receive a hefty fine- and the fact that he wasn't delivering on the pitch made things even worse. He failed to score one solitary goal during the entire 2003/04 campaign, and much to the relief of all those associated with Liverpool, he joined Bolton Wanderers in the summer of 2004.
