10 Most Expensive Transfer Flops In Premier League History

6. Robinho

When Robinho joined Manchester City for £33m on the final day of the 2008 summer transfer window, there was an unbelievable reaction to the news. The Brazilian was seen as one of the most exciting flair players in world football, and although he had failed to ignite at Real Madrid, he was still seen as a hugely ambitious signing by the newly-rich Premier League club. The then 24-year-old got off to a flying start, scoring on his debut against Chelsea and firing a hat-trick past Stoke City, and it looked as though the 95-time capped Brazil international was set to be a superstar in Manchester. His performances began to dip significantly though, and although 15 goals in 41 games was a good return in his first season, there were worries about him. Robinho's second year in England was extremely poor. He found the net just once in 12 insipid performances, falling down the pecking order at the Etihad in the process. The club decided they longer needed him in January 2010, and he was sent back to former club Santos on loan. Now 30, Robinho's career has been a huge disappointment, considering the incredible natural talent at his disposal.
