Gerard Pique and Alvaro Arbeloa spent seven years on opposite sides of the Real Madrid/Barcelona divide, so a professional rivalry is to be expected. El Clasico is one of the most famous and hotly-contested games in world football, and both sides will go to any length to thwart the other, but given that these two spent five years playing together for Spain, it's a little surprising that their resentment ran so deep.

The duo won the World Cup together in 2010, and the European Championship two years later, but did so hating each other's guts. Pique has stated that he never got on with Arbeloa while teaming with him internationally. Their rivalry always amplified whenever Real played Barca, and they frequently clashed through social media and on the pitch, with Pique once comparing Arbeloa's footballing ability to that of a parking cone.

The rivalry became so hateful that Spain captain Sergio Ramos eventually intervened to put an end to the spat. Pique laid his side of the feud to rest ahead of Arbeloa's final Real game in 2016, stating that he'd deserved all the accolades he'd won thus far, and Alvaro recently stated that he has "no feelings" towards his former international teammate.
