10 Footballers Who Claimed It Definitely Wasn't All About The Money
7. Loic Remy
The French striker who has been making headlines recently has made three high-profile transfers since 2008 having joined Nice, Marseille and finally Queens Park Rangers, as well as a loan move to Newcastle United who he had turned down just a matter of months earlier in favour of the Londoners. Remy's mooted move to Liverpool has now collapsed, mysteriously: Liverpool have claimed that he failed his medical, but Harry Redknapp denies this, claiming that "you could not meet a fitter lad." Something doesn't seem quite right: Brendan Rodgers claimed that he was disappointed that Remy hadn't signed, but it seems even with the size of their bank balance following the sale of Luis Suarez, they will not be bullied into paying more money to players demanding high wages. There's no substance to those implications yet, but it's hard to ignore the precedent: Remy had turned down Newcastle after a last minute bid by QPR, claiming he'd chosen the club for "footballing reasons" that had nothing to do with the bigger contract he could enjoy as his side were relegated.
