10 Footballers Who Really Didn't Deserve Winners Medals

9. Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku is a terrific young striker, and one who is only going to get better, but his contribution for Chelsea in 2011/12 makes it scandalous that he finished the campaign with the greatest prize club football has to offer. The Blues went on an amazing Champions League run, which at one point looked certain to have ended after a 3-1 defeat in the second round first-leg against Napoli. They won 4-1 in the return fixture, however, before dispatching of Benfica, Barcelona and Bayern Munich to win the competition for the first time. It was an amazing achievement, and how they battled through against Barca and Bayern almost defied logic. Despite the various heroic individual performances from Chelsea players throughout that run, Lukaku was virtually non-existent. He made 12 appearances in all competitions, failing to register a single goal, and he didn't once feature in the Champions League. Despite this, the Belgian inexplicably took home a winners medal, meaning he has won the competition as many times as Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, and more than Cantona, Dennis Bergkamp and Alan Shearer. An absolute travesty.
