10 Footballers Who Really Didn't Deserve Winners Medals
5. Antonio Nunez
It's fair to say that Liverpool have made some pretty shocking signings during the Premier League era, but there haven't been many who were more lifeless than Antonio Nunez. The Spaniard joined from Real Madrid - how he was a Madrid player remains baffling to this day - as part of the deal that saw Michael Owen go the other way, and he did virtually nothing during his time at Anfield. Regardless of this, Nunez's first season with the Reds would end up being a hugely successful one. Their aforementioned 2005 Champions League win will forever go down in football history as one of the most unlikely triumphs ever, but except for playing a small part in the victory over Olympiacos, he did almost nothing in the competition. The then 26-year-old played no part whatsoever in the final, yet came away with a winners medal. Nunez lasted just one season on Merseyside, making 27 appearances in all competitions and scoring just once - a consolation goal in the 2005 Carling Cup Final defeat to Chelsea - but left the club having won a competition that some of Liverpool's greatest ever players haven't even won.
