10 Footballers Who Really Didn't Deserve Winners Medals

6. Remi Garde

Remi Garde joined Arsenal on exactly the same day as Patrick Vieira, back in the summer of 1996, but that is where any kind of comparison between the pair stops. While Vieira would go on to gain legendary status at the north London club, captaining them to two Premier League titles, Garde was nothing more than a fringe player who produced relatively insipid performances whenever he was given the chance to shine by Arsene Wenger. In 1997/98, Arsenal won their first Premier League title, with the likes of Vieira, Tony Adams, Emmanuel Petit and Dennis Bergkamp producing superb, influential displays throughout the campaign. Garde, on the other hand, made just 10 league appearances. Because he had played that many matches, he just earned himself an undeserved winners medal. As well as that, the Frenchman also got his hands on the FA Cup trophy that season, as the Gunners completed a memorable league and cup double. Garde only featured in the quarter-finals, and wasn't even named in the match-day squad for the final.
