The striker spent two years with the Saints' youth squad before being promoted to the senior side. Shearer's full debut saw him score a hat-trick against Arsenal and become the youngest-ever player to net a treble in the top division. The England international went on to score 23 league goals for the club before being sold to Blackburn Rovers for a transfer record-breaking £3.6million.
On July 30th 1996 a superstar was delivered to Tyneside. Shearer signed for Newcastle United for a world-record-breaking £15 million. The striker looked set to sign for Manchester United but Kevin Keegan, who was the manager of the Magpies at the time, managed to convince him to come home. Shearer scored 148 league goals and became Newcastle United's all-time top scorer, breaking Jackie Milburn's previous record. He is undoubtedly a Toon legend.
