10 Footballers To Play For Both Newcastle And Southampton

8. Mike Williamson

Southampton: 2001-2005 League Appearances: 0 League Goals: 0 Newcastle United: 2010-Present League Appearances: 150 League Goals: 1 In 2001 Mike Williamson signed for Southampton from Torquay for a fee of £100,000 yet he failed to make a single league appearance for the Saints. Unable to break into the first team, the defender was loaned back to his former club before being signed by Wycombe Wanderers in 2005. After spells at Watford and Portsmouth, Williamson signed for Newcastle United in 2010 as they attempted to achieve promotion from the Championship. The Magpies paid £1 million for his services and he formed a strong partnership with Fabricio Coloccini. The 31-year-old was given the man-of-the-match award on his debut for the club and played a big part in Newcastle's success that took them straight back up to the Premier League. Somewhat surprisingly Williamson maintained his place in the first team and has been a regular first-team player for the past five years - and he will probably even start against Southampton on Sunday.
