Mario Gotze returned to Borussia Dortmund in 2016 after expressing regret over his decision to join Bayern Munich as he struggled to have the same impact he did previously at Signal Iduna Park.

However, his second spell with the Borussen too has been nothing to write home about. The German has spent the better part of the last four years on the sidelines due to recurring injuries and when fit, has had to contend with bench roles.

He was widely touted to leave at the end of his contract this year, so it came as little surprise when Gotze officially announced the same last month.

The 27-year old appears to be a far cry from his previous self which won the Golden Boy award in 2011 and the World Cup for Germany in 2014. He has scored a grand total of 14 goals in all competitions since 2016 and hasn't played for the Deutschland since over three years.

Gotze's fall from grace means he won't find many elite suitors, but his wealth of experience can be beneficial to teams like Everton and West Ham, both of whom are currently linked with the star.
