10 Footballers You Totally Forgot Played For England
3. Steven Caulker
In terms of strange career paths, Steven Caulker's is up there with the best of them. The centre back was a product of the Tottenham Hotspur youth set-up, and was loaned out to Yeovil, Bristol City, and Swansea City, before finally breaking into the first team at White Hart Lane.
After one season, Caulker moved to Cardiff City for a year and then to Queens Park Rangers. In what was one of the strangest signings in recent memory, the centre back joined Liverpool on loan from QPR, making three appearances, all as a last ditch striking option.
Caulker now plays his football for Alanyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig, but it was his time at Tottenham that earned him his one and only England cap. Seen as a big prospect for the England team, the centre represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics, and later in the year started in the Three Lions' friendly against Sweden, scoring in the process.
As with Jon Flanagan, Caulker is eligible to play for another country if he so chooses, since his grandmother is Scottish, and his only England cap came in a friendly.
