10 Footballers You Totally Forgot Played For England
3. Chris Sutton
Though Chris Sutton was a successful club player, he never managed to replicate that at international level. Sutton won the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers in 1995 as well as all the domestic trophies several times over north of the border with Celtic in the early 2000s. His individual awards include being the Premier League Golden Boot winner in 1998 and being a member of the Norwich City Hall of Fame.
Sutton is best known in England for forming the deadly 'SAS' partnership with Alan Shearer that propelled Jack Walker's Blackburn Rovers side to their shock Premier League win during the 1994/95 season. Unfortunately, injuries kept him sidelined the following year and Shearer was gone by the time Sutton was playing regularly again. The national team were well serviced for forwards at the time with Shearer, Sheringham, Ferdinand and Fowler going to Euro '96 for Terry Venables.
Glenn Hoddle gave him his only appearance in an England shirt during a friendly against Cameroon. He played eleven minutes at the end of the game but then fell foul of the manager by refusing a cap for the England B team. No England manager ever picked him again.
