10 Footballers You Totally Forgot Played For England

4. Lee Hendrie

Another Villa man who makes the list is Lee Hendrie. Despite being the son of Scottish professional footballer Paul Hendrie, Lee wanted to represent England at international level having been born and raised in Birmingham. Hendrie was an energetic midfielder who caught the attention of England boss Glen Hoddle in 1998 who added him to the squad. He debuted in a friendly against the Czech Republic on 18 November 1998, replacing Paul Merson for the final thirteen minutes of the match. England won the game 2-0 with Hendrie having little chance to make an impact.

Unfortunately for Hendrie, Hoddle would be dismissed early the following year and he'd never be picked for an England squad again. Hendrie would go on to become a journeyman player in the British game, playing for several different clubs throughout the league system. After suffering some setbacks in his private life, Hendrie is now concentrating on bringing the next generation of players through having opened his own academy for young players in his native Midlands.
