10 Former Players Bolton Wanderers Could Do With Now

4. Rodrigo Moreno

The youngster who scored once in 17 relatively anonymous performances for Bolton during the 10/11 season is nothing compared to the man who has scored 45 goals in 117 appearances for Portuguese giants Benfica in the last three years. Having never played for the Portuguese first-team following a switch from the Real Madrid B team, the 19 year old forward was farmed out on loan to Owen Coyle€™s Bolton ahead of the 10/11 season. He was largely restricted to cameo appearances from the bench, and failed to add to his solo strike against Wigan in January. Whatever yoga class or potion juice Rodrigo tried during the summer of 2011, something seemed to click as he returned to Portugal with a spring in his step and scored 16 goals in 38 games, including the opener in a League Cup final against Gil Vicente FC. He has gone on to terrorise defenders the length and breadth of the country, consistently hitting double figures and blasting a superb goal at White Hart Lane during the team€™s 3-1 Europa League triumph. This season, he has been switched to Valencia on a loan deal, and has so far scored just one La Liga goal, but make no mistake about it - this 23 year old is a far different prospect to the teenager who stuttered his way through the Premier League three years ago, and should he keep progressing in the same manner, he may just add to his one Spanish cap.
