His agent told me he didnt like it here, he wasnt happy and he hadn't settled. Good riddance I say. I dont want anybody who doesnt want to play for the club. As far as Im concerned, if you dont want to play for the club then youre better off out the way. You need drive and thats what I ask of my players. Thats why with Townsend, its his loss. Hes missed out, not us. If he doesnt want to play for Leeds United, we dont want him. - Leeds boss Neil Warnock, February 2012.
Its fair to say then-Leeds United manager Neil Warnock did not take the news well that Spurs winger Andros Townsend was leaving the club after just six weeks. The 21 year old had joined Warnocks side at the beginning of the January transfer window on a loan deal until the end of the season, but a week after scoring his first goal for the club in February, he returned to White Hart Lane. Curiously, he signed for Birmingham City on loan the very next day and finished the season there. The England international is a fine player and has finally forced his way into the first-team squad at Spurs over the last 18 months, after being farmed out on nine separate loan deals since 2009. While there is probably still a mutual feeling of ill will between both player and club, Leeds could really do with a crosser like Townsend in the team.
