10 Former Players Sunderland Could Do With Now

1. Jordan Henderson

Out of all these players, if there is one who could potentially return to Sunderland one day, it is Jordan Henderson. The English midfielder has made no attempt to hide that he still harbours a great love for his hometown club despite having left them for Liverpool in a £20 million deal three years ago. Just earlier this year, he was spotted sitting with fellow Sunderland supporters cheering on his former side in the Capital One Cup final against Manchester City - if that€™s not the sign of a man who still has feelings for his former flame, then what is? It wasn€™t because he stopped loving Sunderland - the club he had grown up supporting - that he left. It was ambition that dictated he must leave if he harboured true aspirations for silverware and international acclaim. Following a difficult start, he has now established himself as one of Liverpool€™s most important players, assuming the vice-captaincy at the start of the season and has nailed down a role in the England starting XI as well.
€œI hope Sunderland win every game they play, as long as I€™m not on the opposing side! I may have left the club, but I€™ve still got loads of friends there and I want them to do well. I was really happy at Sunderland and happy to stay, but when a club like Liverpool comes in for you, you have to see it for the opportunity it is. I love the club and I always got on well with the fans so I€™m looking forward to coming back and acknowledging them. If I hadn€™t been lucky enough to make it as a footballer, I€™d have been in the stands with the rest of the fans.€ - Jordan Henderson, March 2012.
Judging by the snapped shot of him at the Capital One Cup final in February, it€™s fair to say Henderson wasn€™t lying. So that's a wrap - what do you think? As always, feel free to leave your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below.
