Its easy to forget that Sulley Muntari was once a Sunderland player, such as the short-lived nature of the loan spell. Having signed in January 2011 from Inter Milan for the rest of the season, the Ghanaian international went on to feature just nine times for the Black Cats where he produced a mixed bag of performances. At the end of the season, the club subsequently decided not to keep him on a permanent basis and he returned to Milan. Now in his fourth season with AC Milan following the cross-city switch, his performance levels have started to gradually decline as he approaches the twilight of his career. Having turned 30 years old on the eve of this campaign, Muntari is no longer the fresh-legged 23 year old who helped Portsmouth achieve an historic FA Cup triumph in 2008. However, he is still an international and scored 19 goals in 80 caps for the Black Stars and has featured in three World Cups although disciplinary problems has resulted in his Saipan-esque expulsion from the last two. While he was never a particularly effective player during his brief time on Wearside, the Milan midfielder would still be a healthy addition to a threadbare squad.
