10 Former Toon Players Who Returned To Haunt Newcastle

7. Craig Bellamy

There was a time when the Toon Army had to choose between Craig Bellamy and Graeme Souness. They chose the former, despite the Scot's other ideas. However, when the spiky Welshman decided to tackle Wor Alan a few months after his departure, he had effectively besmirched his favourable reputation on Tyneside. Then again, with Bellamy's penchant for club-hopping, there seems to be a lack of sentimentalism that would suggest he cares not. Perhaps that was why it was so easy for the Welshman to celebrate without a care in the world as he notched two goals for Liverpool against the Toon in December 2011, despite the successful four year period he spent in the north-east. Blasting home an equaliser from 15 yards after Demba Ba had given the Toon the lead, the Premier League journeyman fizzed in a 25 yard free kick which eluded goalkeeper Tim Krul. A third was added by Steven Gerrard with 13 minutes remaining to wrap up the game, but this match was all about the revenge of Bellamy - silencing a club who he felt had wronged him some six years earlier. It wasn't Bellamy's first act of vengeance of course, having plunged the knife into the Toon rearguard five years ago, firing a debut goal for Manchester City in a 2-1 victory at Eastlands. And yes, he celebrated then too.
