What a nightmare the last year has been for the Scouse Cafu. Since becoming an ever present in the Liverpool side that came so close to winning the Premier League last season and breaking into the England squad, narrowly missing out on the World Cup, Flanagan's career has been put on hold due to a knee injury. He suffered the injury during preseason and hasn't played a minute of competitive football since, expecting to miss another five months at the very least. Full back is an area Newcastle need cover in, especially right back with Daryl Janmaat the only fully fledged player of that position in the squad. Saying that, the Dutch international could leave Newcastle in the summer, leaving a starting birth that Flano could fill without question. He's versatile when alls said and done which will appeal to Mike Ashely who could see Jon as two players in one. Value for money. Despite his injury problems, Flanagan is still very highly thought of at Anfield and is expected to sign a new deal. If he doesn't, there is sure to be a whole host of clubs fighting it out for his signature and Newcastle would be foolish not to be in the mix.
