10 Great Players Liverpool Missed Out On Signing

2. Michael Laudrup

Laudrup was one of the most naturally talented footballers of the last 20 years, and had a sensational career between 1982 and 1998. What a lot of people don't know is that the Denmark legend came incredibly close to joining his boyhood team Liverpool in 1983. He was just 19 years of age and seen as a magnificent prospect. The Reds had reportedly agreed a four-year deal for Laudrup, but at the eleventh hour they decided to change it to three years instead. The deal collapsed, and the young playmaker joined Juventus instead. He was supreme during his four years in Serie A, winning one league title and showing creative genius week in, week out. In 1989 he left the Turin giants and joined Barcelona- Liverpool had again showed an interest- and become an integral part of Johan Cruyff's Dream Team at Camp Nou. He spent five wonderful seasons there, winning four La Liga crowns, one European Cup and multiple other trophies. The Dane also played for bitter rivals Real Madrid, where he won a league title in 1994/95. The former Swansea manager eventually hung up his boots in 1998, having won over 100 caps for his country and achieved footballing greatness. There is no doubting that he would have been a Liverpool legend.
