Back in the summer of 2009, Benitez showed a real interest in bringing the then 23-year-old Falcao to Liverpool from River Plate, but the move never quite materialised. The Colombia striker chose to join Porto instead, where he became one of the club's all-time great strikers. He found the back of the net 72 times in just 87 appearances; a sensational strike-rate. Falcao's form in Portugal earned him a move to Atletico Madrid in 2011, and his performances in Spain were equally brilliant. He scored 70 times in 91 games, and was rightfully thought of as one of the greatest strikers on the planet. A slightly unsuccessful spell at Monaco followed, in which a serious knee injury halted his progress, but he became available again this summer. There was a huge battle for his signature, and Liverpool, along with the likes of Real Madrid and United, all showed great interest in signing the 28-year-old. There was a point in which he became the bookies' favourite to move to Anfield, but instead he chose United on Transfer Deadline Day. Although he hasn't exactly got off to a flying start in Manchester, they have a wonderful player in their ranks.
