10 Greatest British Performances In Champions League History

6. Celtic 2-1 Barcelona 2012/13 Group Stage

Not always is a performance defined by blowing away the opponents, but it can be sometimes be defined by a disciplined and heroic display at the other end of the pitch, while being clinical at the same time. This is why I believe this is Celtic's best European performance ahead of the 4-3 win over Juventus and 2-1 triumph over AC Milan. In many ways last season was monumental for the Bhoys, not only did they manage to get through an extremely tough group but in their last gasp 3-2 over Spartak Moscow, they finally managed an away win in the Champions League for the first time. Then came the most heartbreaking of defeats as Celtic looked like managing to take a point from the Nou Camp before a cruel Jordi Alba strike in second half stoppage time left many Celtic fans and neutrals alike quite angry that this could happen. Still, there was a return leg to gain revenge. An electric atmosphere awaited the two teams and as soon as Victor Wanyama nodded in from a corner on the 18th minute, those decibels just increased that little bit. Adding to the tension, Fraser Forster produced a heroic string of saves and double-saves to thwart countless attempts made by the Catalans. Then came the spark that ignited the Celtic celebrations even further and afforded the fans to dream about another famous Parkhead scalp. After another Barcelona attack broke down, a ball was hit in the direction of the youngster Tony Watt. The 18 year old latched on to it and evaded the attentions of the Barcelona defence to slot beyond Victor Valdes. A Lionel Messi strike sent a lot Celtic nerves fraying but the Bhoys weren't to be denied and gained another momentous win in their quest to qualify, which they did achieve after a win against Spartak Moscow before Juventus eased them out the competition in the Last 16. Will lighting strike twice though?!
