10 Greatest Submissions In UFC History

7. Demian Maia Vs. Chael Sonnen €“ UFC 95

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OB2YsaK4hM4#t=47 Result: Maia defeated Sonnen via submission (triangle choke) at 2:37 of round 1 Recently, Chael Sonnen has made quite a name for himself as being the guy who talks a lot of trash. Whether or not this is all just a front as many people say, it has certainly garnered him a lot of attention. Some people may be shocked to hear that Sonnen has been around the MMA world for over 10-years. In this decade, Sonnen has worked for a record a record of 28-14-1. Of his 14-losses, eight have come by submission and half of those submissions were a triangle choke (indeed, another triangle choke on Chael will feature later in the list). At UFC 95, Sonnen faced Jiu Jitsu ace Demain Maia. Sonnen knew the threat Maia posed on the ground so attempted to keep the fight standing, a tactic we are not used to seeing from the decorated wrestler. Maia however, pushed Sonnen against the cage and executed a beautiful throw which he quickly turned into The American Gangster€™s kryptonite €“ the triangle choke. Maia earned a first round submission victory and Sonnen was stopped by a triangle choke for the third time in his career. With this incredibly slick submission, Maia once again proved why he is considered one of the finest BJJ practitioners in MMA.
