10 Hardest Men Who Ever Played For Everton

5. Barry Horne

Former Wales captain Barry Horne made up one third of Joe Royle€™s famous €˜Dogs of War€™, along with fellow midfield rocks Joe Parkinson and John Ebbrell, an equally talented pair whose careers were blighted by injury. He was an industrious Blue, a natural ball-winner and an inspirational captain of the Welsh national team. During his international career, Horne faced off against some of the world€™s greatest midfielders like Lothar Matthaus and Enzo Scifo and sent them packing, helping the Dragons to memorable wins over Germany and Belgium, respectively. Evertonians might remember Horne most fondly for the 30-yard screamer he netted against Wimbledon on the final day of the 1993€“94 season, which helped the Blues retain their top-flight status at the death. He was named as their player of the season in 1995, the year the club won its last major trophy by lifting the FA Cup with a 1-0 defeat of Manchester United.
