1. Groves To Win
https://twitter.com/guardian_sport/status/470259647321239552 As the old saying goes, speed kills: Mike Tyson had the frightening speed to daze opponents, Muhammad Ali had the speed in his jab to bully fighters and nobody to date has dropped Floyd Mayweather thanks to his tremendous speed and agility. In the first fight between Froch and Groves, Froch could not deal with Groves' speed, but then speed counts for nothing if you cannot sustain it and that was the outcome in the first encounter when Groves ran out of steam from round 7. Instead of spinning off from the ropes, he ended up backed up against them. If the fight goes the distance Groves wins: Carl Froch simply cannot outbox George Groves, which was evident in the first fight. Equally, you don't brawl with a brawler and Groves found that out in the last fight. Although the fight was stopped in round 9, the fight ended in the latter part of round 6 where Groves dropped his gloves and traded with Froch. Would Mayweather have come square on and had a fight against Marcos Maidana? No, because Mayweather knows he would have got KO'd. Whoever takes the centre of the ring is in prime advantage to win the fight: Groves controlled the centre from rounds 1-6 in the last fight and Froch took centre in the next couple of rounds. The advantage of taking the centre of the ring is that you are in control over your opponent and his footwork. The opponent on the outside has to work harder to force an attack and often is on the back foot. Froch has been in hard fights against fighters with speed but George Groves has been Carl Froch's toughest opponent to date. Groves dominated Froch and made him look like a journeyman fighter. This wasn't the Froch we saw getting behind the jab and making Kessler frustrated last May or the Froch that stopped Lucian Bute, who many thought would end Froch's career.
