10 Huge Boxing Upsets Nobody Expected To See

1. Buster Douglas Defeats Mike Tyson

It will probably remain right at the top of any boxing shocks list for as long as the sport continues, but there's little denying the fact that Buster Douglas shocked the entire world when he knocked out Mike Tyson in the Tokyo Dome.

Tyson went into the fight as the global superstar in boxing. Protecting an unbeaten record which had seen him pick off his opponents with relative ease in his previous fights, he didn't envisage any problems against a fighter who had losses on their record already.

That potential slacking off and arrogance, however, is what essentially cost Tyson in this back and forth fight which showed the true extent of heavyweight boxing and the punching power on display.

Douglas was fearless in his approach towards Tyson, advancing forward throughout the fight and enduring the best the American had to offer while dishing out punishment of his own throughout the fight.

Tyson managed to get Douglas on the canvas in the eighth round, but the gutsy challenger survived at the bell and wouldn't make the same mistakes again.

Douglas battled through the ninth and then in a dramatic twist in the tenth, stunned Tyson with a flurry of shots which sent the champion and his gum shield flying across the ring.

Tyson couldn't beat the count, and just like that, Buster Douglas made himself a household name and heavyweight champion of the world at the same time.
