10 Incredible Premier League "What Ifs"
3. Arsene Wenger was sacked in 12/13
Never has a Premier League manager lived on borrowed time for longer than Arsene Wenger. Replacing Bruce Rioch in 1996, Wenger introduced a beautiful passing game to Arsenal that truly unstuck their rivals in the early 2000's as his side became the Invincibles in 2003/04 but things were never so good again.
Consistently securing Champion's League qualification and equalling Manchester United's record total of FA Cup victories weren't enough for the fiercely passionate Arsenal supporters and 2012/13 was almost the end for the Frenchman as the fans were desperate for change - they had gone seven years without a trophy and their beloved captain: Robin Van Persie had been sold to eventual champions Man Utd for a seemingly insultingly low fee.
Had the Arsenal hierarchy listened to their riotous supporters and dismissed Wenger, the most likely candidate to have replaced him would have been Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp. The charming German coming to Arsenal would have broken new ground for the club as Klopp definitely would have raided his former club for some of his favourites: Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels topping the list.
Game changing goal threat and solidity at the back reinvigorates the squad and Jack Wilshere finally fulfils his potential under Klopp, seizing his chance to become the club's midfield general and emulate Patrick Viera's approach to leadership.
Would Arsenal have won the league under Klopp or challenged for European glory? Absolutely they would have and the German tactician would be hailed as one of the greatest in Premier League history... something that is becoming ever more likely in reality.
