9. Man City Are Banned From Europe
Though it has always played a concerningly large part in influencing the beautiful game, in recent years money in football has evolved into a beast all its own, with multiple bodies employed in an attempt to maintain a level of financial fairness within the game.
So, when Man City were recently handed a two-year ban from all European competitions for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations between 2012 and 2016, it served as a statement of intent that UEFA was cracking down on economic infractions in the sport.
To put the charges simply, City are accused of intentionally manipulating sponsorship revenue in order to avoid falling foul of the FFP rules, with a number of leaked emails appearing to support this claim, and the club also refusing to co-operate with the investigation.
It's worth noting that the Citizens are currently appealing the ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. which, if upheld, will also include an astonishing £25 million fine.
