10 Key Stats Ahead Of Newcastle Vs Northampton Town

10,444 - Days Since NUFC And The Cobblers Last Met Competitively

Newcastle United and Northampton Town have only faced each other 10 times in competitive fixtures throughout their entire history. The Magpies shade the number of victories five to three, with two draws along the way as well. Intriguingly, the first meeting between the two clubs came way back in 1908-09 at Stamford Bridge, when Football League champions Newcastle took on Southern League champions Northampton in the second-ever FA Charity Shield tie. The Magpies came out on top, 2-0. It is almost 30 years since the two sides last met competitively though, this time in the FA Cup Third round at St James' Park, when the Magpies triumphed 2-1 on January 21st 1987. Goals from Paul Goddard and Andy Thomas gave Willie McFaul's side the victory.
