10 Last Minute Football Transfers That Could Still Go Down Before The Deadline Day

6. Edinson Cavani To Real Madrid

Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani has had a glittering, if slightly underappreciated, career. The 33 year old became known as one of the world's hottest strikers following explosive stints at Palermo and Napoli. On the back of three 30+ goal seasons with Napoli, Cavani signed with Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 where the goals continued to fly in.

Particularly prolific alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic when the Swede was with the Parisians, Cavani would net a staggering 200 goals in 301 appearances for PSG over the course of his seven seasons in France. The 16-17 season was his most deadly, as he bagged an astonishing 49 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions.

However, the lack of a Champions League trophy, the arrival of different superstars such as Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Mauro Icardi, plus the unfair reality of age being a thing has seen Cavani's appearances drop steadily since that season, rounding off 2019-20 with just 7 goals in 22 appearances.

Cavani was released by PSG at the end of the 2019-20 campaign, and has been linked with a free move to Real Madrid this summer. Firepower was Real's biggest issue last season, with defender Sergio Ramos finishing as the club's second highest goalscorer and the only other player to hit more than ten goals.

The similarities to Karim Benzema are certainly there, and it was alongside a similar player in Zlatan that Cavani found his best form.
