10 Lessons Learned From UFC Fight Night 52

2. Big Country Can Be Stopped

Another result we didn't see coming, not really. Roy Nelson arguably won the first round of his fight we Mark Hunt in the headlining bout of UFC Fight Night 52, and had a takedown in the second where he worked for a submission but didn't really get anywhere. Not long after that, he was knocked out by Mark Hunt, dropped to the canvass. He was out only seconds and quickly regained his feet, but Hunt had a walk-off knockout. Now, while many had suggested Hunt could be the man to knock out Big Country, a feat that had never before happened in the UFC despite Nelson being in many, many wars, few actually believed it would happen - not deep down. It did. It's a huge setback for Nelson. Not the knockout per se - anyone can be knocked out, and he knows it. He has suffered a TKO before, to Andrei Arlovski after all. No, for Nelson, this just kills momentum, and likely sticks him in the gatekeeper role for good. Which isn't the end of the world - he'll still headline or co-headline a few more cards before he calls it a career. It's just more likely to be fun fights moving forward.
