10 Lessons Learned From UFC Fight Night: Mousasi vs. Souza

5. The Derrick Lewis Hype Train Has Derailed

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oO7n2inBXsc We'll admit: we were almost on it. Derrick "The Black Beast" Lewis looked like he was a strong up-and-comer in the UFC's heavyweight division. He quickly racked up two wins in the promotion, violent ones, and was granted a shot at heavyweight vet Matt Mitrione as a result. Maybe it was a case of too much, too soon, but Lewis learned the hard way that anyone can be knocked out in the UFC. In 41 seconds, his night at UFC Fight Night 50 was over, and Mitrione had his second win of 2014. Once again, we're seeing the inability of lower-level heavyweights to break up into the top 15. For a shallow division, that's a problem, because the fighters at the top just don't seem to be going anywhere, and the ones coming in are stalling. How Lewis bounces back from this loss is crucial - if he can rebound with a win, he may still have a chance to be a force at heavyweight.
