10 Liverpool Heroes Whose Careers Have Nosedived Since Leaving Anfield
3. Stan Collymore
Not only did Stan Collymore provide Premier League with arguably its defining moment - netting the winner in that thrilling 4-3 victory over Newcastle in 1996 - but the former British record signing also scored a host of other important goals for the Reds during his two seasons at the club. Despite having arrived with a weight of expectation on his shoulders, Collymore lived up to his hefty price tag, scoring 28 goals in 64 games and becoming a firm fan favourite at Anfield. He soon became Liverpools most expensive sale, signing for Aston Villa for £7 million in 1997 where he failed to replicate his goalscoring feats, bagging just 15 goals in his three seasons at the club. The former Liverpool hitman battled with depression and spent several weeks at the Priory Hospital Roehampton, before undergoing a three-month loan stint at Fulham upon his return. He scored just once for the Cottagers, before Villa sold him to Leicester City in 2000, where he scored five times in 11 games for Martin ONeills side. A brief stint at Bradford City followed, where he found the back of the net twice in seven outings, before he finished his career at the age of 30 after just three fruitless displays for Spanish side Real Oviedo in 2001.
