10 Liverpool Players Who Should Fear For Their Future

6. Mamadou Sakho

For a centre-back who cost £15 million, has 24 French caps to his name and played over 200 games for PSG, Liverpool supporters would surely have expected something a little bit better than the underwhelming €˜Jean-Alain Boumsong€™-esque flop they have been lumbered with. Expected to shore up Liverpool€™s defensive frailties last term, if anything Sakho contributed to an even leakier back-line, as the Reds concession of 50 goals - two more than Crystal Palace - contributed to their coming up short in the race for the title. Brendan Rodgers looks to have already lost faith in the 24 year old French international, splurging a further £20 million on Southampton centre-half Dejan Lovren during the summer. Injuries have spoiled the last month of his season, but even when fit, he started on the bench during three of the first five league games of the season, before being completely omitted from the squad for the Merseyside derby. Sakho didn€™t take the news well and subsequently stormed out of the stadium, before lately offering an apology for his petulant actions. While Lovren has performed poorly during his opening couple of months on Merseyside, one would suspect that Rodgers would persist with a player who he strenuously chased during the summer, and will be more likely to cut his losses on a player who has already shown the club a distinct lack of respect this season.
