10 Liverpool Players Who Should Fear For Their Future

7. Lucas Leiva

''Over the summer there was interest from Napoli, along with other clubs. Benitez has again asked to sign me. My objective for now is to play consistently. We۪ll see in future.۪۪ - Lucas Leiva, November 2014.
One can€™t blame Lucas Leiva for wistfully looking to a greener horizon, considering the purgatory he finds himself in at Anfield. The Brazilian midfielder has made just three league appearances this season, and has found himself left out of the match-day squad on five separate occasions. The emergence of Steven Gerrard as a deep-lying playmaker, operating in Lucas€™ defensive role, has further pushed the 27 year old down the pecking order at Liverpool, with Brendan Rodgers clearly preferring the Reds€™ captain. Having thoroughly unimpressed whenever granted the opportunity to shine this season, it would appear that Lucas could finally be leaving the Reds after nearly eight years at the club.
''I know it۪s been hard for Lucas because since he got his injury, the team has done really well in his absence. Steven in that role is a world-class operator. The difference now is that rather than playing with two defensive midfield players, we are playing with one. There is more emphasis on the attacking element. I have to pay homage to Lucas because he۪s been first class with his attitude and his work - he۪s been absolutely incredible. He has made it known to me that he wants to help whenever he۪s called upon - whether it۪s for one minute or 90 minutes, he will be ready.۪۪ - Brendan Rodgers, April 2014.
Judging by the Brazilian€™s wistful slip regarding his former boss€™ interest at Napoli, one would imagine that the Brazilian anchor is tired of waiting.
