10 Lowest-Ranked Teams At The 2018 World Cup
2. Saudi Arabia (67)
Saudi Arabia enjoyed a nice period of World Cup appearances during the '90s and early 2000s, appearing at four successive tournaments from 1994 to 2006, but they failed to qualify for the 2010 and 2014 editions of the tournament. Now, they're back and have the distinct honour of appearing in the tournament's opening game against Russia on June 14.
The team's best performance came in 1994 when they reached the round of 16, but they haven't won a single World Cup game since then. That could certainly change this summer as the Saudi Arabians find themselves alongside other low-ranked nations like Egypt and Russia in Group A.
Coached by former Spain striker Juan Antonio Pizzi, Saudi Arabia recently managed to hold their own in a respectable 2-1 friendly defeat against World Champions Germany and have proven to be quite a tough nut to crack. They tend to struggle to score goals, but will be hoping that the likes of Mohammad Al-Sahlawi and Fahad Al-Muwallad can pose a sufficient threat in the final third as they seek to stay tight at the back and secure some good results this summer.
